The Division of Timber Structures offers courses on traditional and modern timber structures, with a special focus on glued laminated timber. To main directions of scientific activity and teaching aims belong: traditional and historical timber structures, mechanics of wood and wood-based materials, innovative timber structures (textile, origami based folded plates), glued laminated and cross laminated timber. Moreover, the Division members conduct research on smart and deployable structures, tensegrity, tensairity, origami and other light-weight systems. The Division offers following scientific and research services: scientific and technical expertise on timber structures, design projects, modernization and revitalization of timber buildings, computational modeling of structures (FEM), unconventional structures (tensegrity, deployable structures).

- Modelling of a Tensegrity Core
The journal “Materials” has published an article entitled “Computational Modelling of a Prestressed Tensegrity Core in a Sandwich Panel” by Jan Pełczyński and Kamila Martyniuk-Sienkiewicz, which focuses on the numerical analysis of tensegrity cores suitable for use in sandwich structures. The publication presents a procedure for determining and implementing prestressing in FEM models, using SVD… - Stiffness control analysis
An article entitled “Stiffness control analysis through numerical modelling of a smart sandwich panel with OSB facesheets and a tensegrity lattice core” by Jan Pełczyński, Kamila Martyniuk-Sienkiewicz and Anna Al Sabouni-Zawadzka has been published in the “European Journal of Wood and Wood Products“. The publication concerns an analysis of the possibility of controlling the bending… - MIMS25 WORKSHOP
As part of her participation in the MIMS25, 2025 International Workshop on Multiscale Innovative Materials and Structures, taking place October 29-November 1, 2025 in Cetara, Italy, Anna Al Sabouni-Zawadzka presented a paper entitled “Experimental study of negative Poisson’s ratio in a tensegrity-like lattice.” The results presented are the result of work in the project entitled… - CMM 2025
As part of his participation in the CMM 2025, 26th International Conference on Computer Methods in Mechanics, taking place July 8-11, 2025 in Łódź, Maciej Kołodziejczak presented a paper entitled “Evaluation of a class of 2D graded cellular metamaterials fabricated using 3D printing.” The results presented are the result of work in the project entitled… - CMM 2025
