Modelling of a Tensegrity Core

The journal “Materials” has published an article entitled “Computational Modelling of a Prestressed Tensegrity Core in a Sandwich Panel” by Jan Pełczyński and Kamila Martyniuk-Sienkiewicz, which focuses on the numerical analysis of tensegrity cores suitable for use in sandwich structures.

The publication presents a procedure for determining and implementing prestressing in FEM models, using SVD decomposition and the automation of geometry generation and load definition within the ABAQUS environment. The analyses carried out revealed a varied mechanical response of the configurations under investigation, including the linearly elastic behaviour of a fully stable system and the non-linear stiffening of structures requiring the introduction of prestressing.

The results presented are the result of work in the project entitled “Numerical and experimental development of an innovative wood-based layered structure with a tensegrity core” funded under the National Science Center grant number 2022/47/D/ST8/00466.
